Most RV water heaters fail in one of two ways: the thermocouple fails on gas heaters (causing the pilot to not stay lit) or the heating element burns out on electric mode. Both are straightforward repairs we can complete in under two hours on-site. A failed anode rod is often overlooked and causes premature tank failure.
Florida's hard water accelerates anode rod depletion. If you're camping regularly at Florida campgrounds and haven't replaced your anode rod in 12 months, it's likely depleted. A depleted anode rod allows the aluminum or steel tank to corrode from the inside, leading to rust-colored hot water and eventually tank failure.
RV Water Heater Problems We Fix
- No hot water on gas - thermocouple, igniter, or burner assembly failure
- No hot water on electric - heating element or thermostat failure
- Pilot light won't stay lit - thermocouple or gas valve failure
- Water heater leaking - anode rod fitting, pressure relief valve, or tank
- Rust-colored hot water - depleted anode rod
- Tankless water heater not working - flow sensor or control board
- DSI ignition failure - circuit board or electrode
Brands We Service
Suburban and Atwood (now Dometic) are the two most common RV tank-style water heaters. We service both brands in 6-gallon and 10-gallon sizes, gas, electric, and combi (gas/electric) configurations. DSI ignition systems are standard on most newer heaters and have a specific failure pattern - we keep DSI boards and electrode assemblies in stock.
For tankless RV water heaters - Rinnai and Girard are the most common - we service the flow sensor, inlet strainer, and control board. Tankless units are more sensitive to water pressure and sediment than tank heaters and often need inlet strainer cleaning after Florida campground use.
